From the Vicar

Welcome! And thank you for visiting our website.

My name is Fr. Matthew Ainsley and I’m the vicar of All Souls —“a brand new old church.”

All Souls is new because we haven’t been around that long. In November of 2019, a cluster of families from the Church of the Ascension in Dr. Phillips set out to plant a church in a burgeoning new community — Horizon West.

All Souls is an old church because the Church started two-thousand years ago on Pentecost. Moreover, we’re not interested in novelty, in doing something new, but rather in joining and continuing in something that is very old, ancient — eternal. We want to practice and “contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3).

One of things that is often missing in modern Christianity is a sense of the holiness of God and the reverence due Him when we gather for worship. If there is one verse in Scripture which should govern the worshipping life of the Church, it’s Psalm 96:9 — “Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.”

I would love for you to join us for worship. I think you will find that our people take the Lord seriously but not themselves. There’s a seriousness about All Souls, yes, but also a sense of warmth, joy, and even playfulness. The website should be helpful in getting a feel for what All Souls is about, but the best way to get to know us is to plan a visit.

In Christ,
Fr. Matt+
